Property Inheritance of Moved or Copied Items

To move an assigned feature or unit

The following table summarizes the logic used by the Design Assistant in determining the properties of items that are moved with a cut-and-paste operation or copied with a copy-and-paste operation. These items include features as well as macro units, compatible units, materials, and custom costs.
Property How the value is derived
Status Inherited from target object (work location or feature). If there is no value to inherit, defaults to Proposed Install.
Labor Difficulty Inherited from target object.
Linear Allowance Inherited from target object. If there is no value to inherit, the value is take from the current defaults.
Labor Type Inherited from the current defaults.
Work Type Inherited from the current defaults.
Quantity Inherited from target work location. If the item being moved or copied is a non-linear unit, the value defaults to 1.
Plant Account Inherited from current defaults (i.e., default Plant Account for the item being moved or copied).

Keep in mind that the Design Assistant's logic is not as important as your capability to modify these values after using a paste operation.

  1. In the Design Workspace, select the assigned feature or unit that you want to move and click the Cut button on the Standard toolbar.

Or right-click the item and choose Cut from the shortcut menu.

  2. Select the target work location or feature where you want to assign the deleted item and then click the Paste button on the Standard toolbar.

Or right-click the target item and choose Paste from the shortcut menu.
